PATHWAY IN2MED Should I Study Med?
Reasons to Study Med
Would I be a good fit?
Before embarking on your journey in to Medicine it is important to first evaluate whether it is something you truly want to pursue in the future.
Some of the reasons why many wish to study medicine include:
- An interest in the sciences and health sciences
- A positive (or even negative) encounter with the healthcare profession
- Enjoy working in a team environment
- Relish the opportunity for continued learning
- A desire to make a positive difference in society

Reasons not to study Med:
While some may also wish to study medicine for reasons such as money, prestige and family pressures, such motivations will not help you push through the rigors of the entrance process and medical school.
That is not to say, however, that you cannot have these motivations – this is only cause for re-evaluation if they are the ONLY motivations.
Additionally, by way of the interview processes most commonly, universities hope to filter through those who are wishing to study medicine for altruistic reasons for the sake of maintaining the integrity of the medical profession.
